Letter from David Newton, Director

February 5, 2014

Dear Friends of Peter's FUNd Racer,

This is just a friendly reminder that our 15th annual event is being held at Sugarbush on Saturday, March 1st.    You know the drill by now:  Cocktails and Registration Friday night (Feb. 28th) while the kids enjoy the outdoor pool at Clay Brook;  The RACE Saturday morning followed by a buffet lunch in the Mushroom;  and our 'Bragging Rights' event Saturday night, which includes dinner, silent auction, awards, and, of course, dancing.

We have exciting news for those of you looking for a great place to stay for the weekend.  Bob Heffernan and Allen Zeiner are the new owners of The White Horse Inn.    The Inn has just been totally refurbished and is just a couple of short miles to the lifts.   They are offering an incredible deal to our participants of $89 per room including a full breakfast daily.  Why so generous?  They of course want to show the place off to a great group of Sugarbush regulars but, much more importantly, Bob was diagnosed with STAGE 4 melanoma 8 years ago and is doing just great!   Most people would call that a miracle.  I would certainly agree with that term but I also like to think of it as PROGRESS!    Check out their website at whitehorseinn-vermont.com and give them a call to book your rooms.

Of course for those of you who prefer to stay slope side, visit sugarbush.com for your lodging needs.

We have given away over $1,150,500 to date to our various charities, including Massachusetts General Hospital, The Vermont Respite House, 2 Hope Lodges, the Sugarbush Ski Patrol and the Cancer Patient Support Program in Vermont.  WOW!   Just amazing I think, and it's all due to a  small group of very loyal friends.  All of our charities and the amounts donated are listed on our website, petersfundracer.com.   And check out the pictures from years past!

You will also want to check the website regularly the week before our event in order to keep up with the ever-changing silent auction.  One of the auction highlights this year is a dinner for 8, at your house in greater Boston, prepared by the amazing Barbara Lynch.   I have enjoyed one of these incredible evenings at Barbara's restaurant, Stir.   I promise it will be a night your friends and/or clients will never forget.  As I mentioned, the bidding doesn't really start until the last week of February, but this one item has started trading in the futures market, and is currently bid at $3,000.

Please let me know if you'd like me to save you a bib this year.  Your $200 includes a lift ticket, the race, lunch, dinner, dancing and more!  Scott Beebe has once again agreed to refund your money if you don't leave Sunday with a big smile on your face.

The skiing is surprisingly great and there is plenty of new snow in the forecast.   Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for me, and for Peter's FUNd Racer.

All the best,

David J. Newton
